Microneedling is one of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments available. It’s a minimally invasive treatment that effectively treats conditions ranging from acne scars to wrinkles and sun damage. Lindsay, our aesthetic treatment provider, uses the SkinPen® microneedling device, the first in the U.S. to be cleared by the FDA.
Microneedling works by penetrating the skin with tiny needles at the tip of the SkinPen device, creating microchannels that stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process while limiting damage to skin cells. This produces new collagen and other growth factors that are essential for smoother, tighter skin. You can think of it as rejuvenating the skin from the inside out. A little downtime is needed after a microneedling treatment session. We recommend scheduling a series of at least 3 treatments to get optimal results.
The microchannels created during the procedure also help the skin efficiently absorb serums and other skincare products that enhance the treatment outcome.
Microneedling may help with issues like:
- Hair loss (also called alopecia)
- Dark spots or patches on your skin (hyperpigmentation)
- Large pores
- Skin laxity
- Stretch marks
The first step in choosing skincare products is to understand your skin type. There are 4 basic skin types, and knowing which one you have is essential for selecting the best options to restore and optimize healthy-looking skin.
The 4 skin types are:
- Normal: This term refers to skin that’s neither too oily nor dry.
- Oily: Sebaceous glands produce a substance called sebum to help protect the skin, but too much creates oily skin.
- Dry: Too little sebum leads to dry skin, which doesn’t retain moisture and lacks the skin’s protective shield.
- Combination: Some people have oily skin on their foreheads, nose, and chin, while their cheeks have dry skin.
Some people who have oily skin at younger ages may notice their skin becomes drier with age. The skin’s sensitivity is also an important consideration when choosing the right skincare products for you.
We offer a menu of advanced skincare procedures that are safe and effective so our patients can feel confident about getting the results they want. Our registered nurse and physician assistant also perform aesthetic injectables, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport® and dermal fillers to take your radiant skin to the next level.
